The Magazine World

Aug 25, 2010

I have had a bit of writer's block lately, so I apologize for a lack of posts. But I wanted to say that I really appreciated all the comments I have been getting, and my 15 followers (two of them are anonymous!). Thank you guys so much!
So, now for the point of this post. Magazines. I am an avid reader of them-they inspired me to start this blog-but I have been noticing the usual elements of the average magazine in a negative way. And these points make me think that...could/should the average magazine change? Could/should the magazine world change? After reading these brief points, what do you think?

  • Advertisements. Yes, they are necessary, but do we really need so many? The September Issue of Teen Vogue had way more advertisements than its content. What particularly gets on my nerves are pages with sidebar advertisements-I know it isn't that bad, but I am not a fan.
  • Reading content. There are always some articles, but I would love for some more-about culture, travel, art, music, etc. Whatever it is, more reading content which is interesting to readers and central to happenings around the world would be appreciated.
  • Lastly, I don't have another particularly point for this one (which kind of defeats the purpose of this bullet point). But, really, I would love to see more creative content in magazines. Something that is different and exciting. Is that going to happen anytime soon? I hope so!

  3. teen vogue is one of my favorite magazines! I think its more artsy than other magazines and the editorials are so inspiring. I really enjoy the articles about music and culture, and I agree there should be more of them. There are definitely a lot of ads, but I actually like them! Looking at all the designer ads can give me a taste of what each one is doing for the current season. Thanks for following me, I am now following you too!

  4. Meera I could not agree more with you on this matter.
While I love to flip through a fashion mag, I always want to read something good too. Sadly these magazines seem to think that fashion fans are airheads and are only interested in pictures. A good article on travel or a short story would add a dimension to the magazine.
    Something to think about......
