It is New York Fashion Week!
I have been pouring over NYFW shows with dedication. Last season, I memorized each show, each color scheme, each theme of each designer, so a whole new season was both incredibly exciting and a little sad. But this season, nostalgia and sadness are wiped out with bold, fresh colors on the runways of Peter Som, Jill Stuart, Prabul Gurung, and more. Some key colors I identified are displayed above. Blue florals and deep hues of aqua and cobalt blue appeared on many runways. Peter Som and Jason Wu displayed similar prints in an almost identical shade of blue, and a sprinkle of white. Gorgeous tropical shades of tangerine and yellow sparkle with visions of summer-sitting by the pool, lounging by the beach, a glass of lemonade in hand. I particularly admired Peter's Som's unapologetic, over-the-top use of color throughout his collection. Fall's shades of blacks and grays seem a dull season away next to the rainbow of colors. Lastly, following up from last year's collections, white is dominating Spring/Summer 2012 collections-from The Row's almost completely white collection, to Helmut Lang's tasteful balance between neutral tones and bold colors.
Up to now, S/S 2012 collections have been full of trends, details, and colors I will be coveted for the rest of the year-and this analysis has been taken from just about 20 shows! I cannot wait to see the rest. Happy NYFW!
