During the talk on A/W 2012 trends, blogger X-Wen and Topshop personal shoppers discuss how to integrate the many trends into your own closets
Sneak peek at the Louise Gray for Topshop collection! Outrageous colors, tons of sequins, and delightful prints are just a few words to cover the six-piece collection.
On a sunny Saturday morning, while New York Fashion Week shows continued to stream through on every fashion website imaginable, I had the pleasure to attend F3's Topshop Private View Party hosted by one of the most popular bloggers in Singapore, X-Wen and by Topshop's personal shoppers, Anny and Melanie. It was a lovely event, with a wonderful talk given by X-Wen and the personal shoppers. During the talk, the three superbly dressed ladies shared their thoughts on how to style Autumn/Winter 2012's top trends. Among the many trends discussed in detail and the hundreds of gorgeous outfits shown through Topshop's latest collection, there were three trends which appealed to me the most: shades of burgundy and oxblood, military styles, and sequins. Each trend sounds slightly general when put in this way, but there are specific ways to wear each style to the best of your ability. As we are currently in the midst of Autumn, it is the perfect time to explore these fabulous trends and incorporate them into our daily wardrobe.
I fell in love with this striking hue as soon the Topshop stylists introduced it. I am not generally a fan of such dark shades but oxblood has a regal, medieval look to it which immediately appealed to me. Burgundy and oxblood shades are all over the F/W 2012 runways and is a majestic tone that can be worn for both day and night. Topshop has no lack of oxblood items, and owning at least one similarly-colored item in your wardrobe is a must. X-Wen, Anny, and Melanie spoke about another one of their favorite trends - layering - which can be used to play around with oxblood colors. Perhaps layering a contrasting tone or a sharply cut blazer could add a hint of personal style to an oxblood ensemble.
This may seem like a fairly obvious trend, but sequins are hard to resist during these seasons. With more than a few holidays coming up and multiple parties to attend, sequins are the go-to look for any sort of nighttime event. Generally, girls go for gold-sequin tops, skirts, and dresses but Topshop has put a unique spin on each all-over sequin item. The beautiful indigo sequin top has a peplum touch which I adore while the bright gold top has a slightly deconstructed image. This way, you can move away from the usual sequin looks you don. I love how Topshop has provided girls you can't stay away from glitter and gold with all-new set of options. Rather than going with the same sequin, bandage mini-dresses, the brand offers its fan with a wide variety of silhouettes that still reflect the mood of this party season.
Military looks have been seen in Victoria Beckham's F/W 2012 collection, in an array of dark green hues. Military tops in camouflage prints (see above) or brass gold buttons have occupied space on the runway for multiple years in a row but it manages to be received well by shoppers everywhere. At the Private View at Topshop party, X-Wen and the stylists recommend pairing a military-esque coat with a contrasting top. Personally, I would go for the Khaki Milano Skirt above, since it gives off a borderline-military vibe while maintaing a versatile look.
Thank you, Topshop and X-Wen for such a lovely event! I absolutely loved getting an exclusive preview of the latest collection and am looking forward to using these trends in my everyday looks.
