#aff2013 day 2: raoul.

May 23, 2013

Over the next five years, RAOUL is set to open 27 stores across China, expanding their already booming business to one of the world's biggest markets. With Kate Middleton and other fashion-forward socialites in their celebrity repertoire, RAOUL has made a name for themselves in Singapore and beyond. Their clothes are minimal, elegant, and edgy, earning them the reputation of being one of Singapore's most recognized and admired brands, which even attained a slot at New York Fashion Week 2013. Presenting their collection at the Audi Fashion Festival in Singapore has been an honor, as co-designer of the husband-wife duo, Benjamin Douglas states, "For me, but especially for my wife, it's very rewarding [to be at AFF]." It was an absolute delight to see the clothes in person at another glittery night at the Audi Fashion Festival.
Taking inspiration from museums and ancient art, RAOUL concocted a striking print, which was the prominent feature of the collection. It is hard to exactly pin-point a description of the print, but it was a medley of paisleys and florals, and was worked into the collection in every way imaginable: its versatility was commendable. Paired with sleek trousers, a peplum top, or adorned on a silk top, the print was a representation of the retro vibe the show held. With candy-colored coats, sleek evening gowns, and a pop-art color scheme from the 60's and 70's, the collection was a fabulous reinvention of trends of the past. There was a slight contrast in many of the looks of the show, as you can see above and below. This worked to the brand's advantage, of course, as the collection maintained its purpose and yet displayed originality in each ensemble. In terms of the beauty look, hair was kept in messy, chic buns, and NARS cosmetics played a role in bringing the makeup of the models alive, with smoky eyes and nude lips. I have to say, that from the three shows I attended at Audi Fashion Festival 2013, RAOUL's charm and value for modern fashion made the show unmatchable.
What do you think of this collection? What are your favorite looks from the show?
