summer skirt.

Jul 2, 2013

Shooting an outfit post in the midst of nature is my favorite thing to do – there is a certain contrast between a luxurious skirt and pair of heels with the simplicity of earth around you. (Contrast is something I try to achieve in my own writing, through irony and other tools, and something which I've been incorporating in the writing that I've been doing in Columbia University's creative writing course for high-school students this summer. The course is such an incredible experience and I have learned so much over the past few weeks, as well as having spent valuable time in NYC!) I sought to have contrast in this outfit too, combining black and white together – the quintessential example of opposite colors in fashion.  The most important part of the outfit, though, was the skirt. With a light embroidery adorning it, and a chic sheer fabric underneath, the skirt is absolutely perfect for the warm climate of summer. I've been wearing short skirts almost everyday this season, and it is a staple piece that is faultless for humid weather. This piece in particular, a well-worn skirt from the Gap, is flowy and elegant, while maintaing an air of versatility. It was an ideal combination with my new Zara black top, which has a scoop-shaped neckline and cropped sleeves, which is an absolute favorite of mine.
