While browsing a bevy of street style websites for the latest fashion week off-the-runway looks, I found a photograph of Joan Smalls from last season, donning a trend-heavy look. The beautiful model was caught on camera (evidently by dozens of eager photographers) in an utterly chic ensemble with a classic color combination – black and white. This timeless merging of hues was enhanced by the many trends Smalls incorporated in her outfit, making it worthy of Tommy Ton's priceless street style photo. Smalls had many elements in the outfit which reflected those that are streaming down the runways as we speak, from the delicate crop-top to the sleek leather clutch. To top off the look, the skater skirt did wonders – and provides a figure-hugging silhouette – in an everlasting shade of black. In terms of the details, shimmering black nail polish managed to stand out even with the identical skirt, and a tight, simple headband was a subtle nod to sports-luxe – a trend which has captured the attention of more than a few designers for Spring 2014. Joan Smalls pulled together a look with more than a few trends to its name, and did so with the usual laid-back attitude that can only be associated with an off-duty model.
The best thing about this outfit is that it can be translated into an everyday look for anyone. With a simple, round-collared crop-top, a black skirt and the touch of a clutch, we can achieve Joan Smalls' outfit for ourselves, just by using a few closet staples. What do you think of this look?
+ I just turned 16 on September 27th! Thank you to everyone who wished me on Twitter and Instagram.
