In a series of ornate, ostentatious images, Signe Vilstrup captured the undeniable magic of Indian weddings for Vogue India's November 2013 issue. Styled by Vogue India's Priyanka Kapadia and Lorna McGee, the editorial had a stellar team that struck perfection with each image. An emphasis was placed, of course, on the clothes but simultaneously on the traditional aspect of Indian weddings. In every picture, the sheer beauty and meticulous detail of the clothing is evident; so is the importance of family and a portrayal of the happy occasion. Models included Kelly Gale, now of Victoria Secret fame, (my new model crush!) as the stunning bride. She was shown wearing shocking pinks, velvet, shades of maroon, and striking violet. Indian jewelry is known for its immaculate work and variety of precious stones – Vogue India brought a bevy of pieces to life in each ensemble. The editorial managed to shine light on this magical time, with every photograph masterfully displaying the merge between modern and traditional life in India.
As many of you know now, through Twitter and Instagram, I have decided to do one semester abroad in Mumbai, India. It was somewhat of a difficult decision, what with being apart from my family for a few months at a time, but it is one I am very excited about. Having grown up in New York City and Singapore, my exposure to India has been limited to spending time with my family during the holidays. Now, with living there for a significant amount of time and going to school there, I hope to gain a better understanding of the country I still call home. Keep up with my adventures on the blog and my social media accounts!
