Halfway through March and Spring is officially here, with warmer days – and the long-awaiting invitation of summer – finally making their ways into our lives. And while this means different things to each individual, for the shopper-in-you it means that it is time to update your wardrobe. Every high-street brand and designer house has anticipated this, naturally with each coming season, and 2014 has been one of the best years yet. Upon my return to Singapore (a blissful week back with the family for Spring Break!) my first few stops, inevitably, revolved around trips to Orchard Road, the shopping haven of our little island. With each adorned window and enticing display of clothes, it is clear that Spring shopping has a few fabulous trends that we should follow. I noticed pastels galore – every shop from those with a more feminine tone (Kate Spade) to those that are suited to the daring and experimental (Topshop) had their fair dose of pastels. Beautiful blue dresses, silhouettes inclined towards hot climates, tighter waistlines, and an altogether more refreshing take on dressing: this is fashion for Spring.
The options above are a perfect reflection of our recipe for Spring outfits. With a bevy of stunning dresses, varying from those with a subtle lace touch to those covered in bold, aquamarine hues – the options are unlimited. My formula for Spring takes a more casual approach, then is enhanced with the addition of one of the covetable bags in 3 different styles – satchels or crossbodies that are presented in smooth black, pretty pastels, or neutral classics. Blue has made a return into the market, as it dominates a portion of the clothing I saw. From white-washed denim to cobalt, blue has enough representations of itself to retain its beauty. Mixing and matching colors can be tricky in this situation, but with the right pair – and the perfect amount of unabashed boldness – your outfit can be molded into one that is ideal for this lovely season. My dream ensemble? One of the adorable, Zoey-Deschanel-esque dresses above combined with a striking, vividly-colored tote. With pieces like this, you can't go wrong.
