model of the moment: neelam gill

Jun 29, 2015

If you have any presence of social media, I'm sure you've come across the gorgeous model Neelam Gill at some point or the other. The stunning, coffee-toned model has 6.5K followers on Twitter and almost 30K followers on Instagram – numbers that explicitly display her rise to the top. This much-publicised rise was initially sparked when a highly-recognized brand (to say the least) discovered her. Since then, she was the first Indian model to be featured in said brand's campaign, as covered by the likes of Vogue India and Teen Vogue. With glowing skin and covetable eyebrows, Gill, previously going by Johal, has worked with the bulk of the fashion industry, in just a short span of time. Above, I featured my favourite images from some of these glorious editorials – from her work with Vogue, Elle, and other publications both online and in print form. The model is currently signed with the enviable names Wilhemina and Elite.

With headlines describing her as "making waves in the fashion world", it's no surprise that Neelam has made a name for herself – and become one of my favourite models to obsess over on social media and otherwise. After adding the beauty on Snapchat, I get constant updates from her fast-paced life, both socially and fashion-wise. Her extensive and undeniably impressive resume continues to grow, with both Western and Indian brands pulling her in. Both Elle India and Vogue India (see above) have enlisted the 20-year-old model in the past, with an Elle cover being the highlight of the two. The US edition of Elle describes her as having "huge brown eyes" and a "rare mix" of angelic and gorgeous. She's a self-proclaimed reader – which only enhanced the connection – and a penchant for English. The diversity she brings into the fashion industry is an immense point to be made; there is still a need for South Asian representation in fashion. On the issue, Gill says, "I do as much as I can to raise awareness about diversity in the industry. And that's what I'm proud to get any job." She spoke more about this diversity and the importance of it, along with her love for literature and rap. Check it out here, in an interview which will solidify everything I've written in this post. For more of Neelam, check out her Instagram here!
